Drive Shaft Repair for Fayetteville, Lumberton & Clinton, NC

Cars differ based on their torque, or their power produced by the engine. Some vehicles have torque that is sent to the front (front wheel drive), the rear (rear wheel drive) or the front and the rear (four-wheel drive). It is also quite possible that your four-wheel drive vehicle contains two driveshaft’s. The driveshaft is the component that is responsible for transferring this power in your vehicle. It is absolutely vital that your driveshaft is in tip top shape.

Driveshaft Service Tips:

  • If your vehicle is lifted or lowered, your driveshaft is especially prone to damages due to the exposure of the driveshaft to possible damaging factors (weather, pavement etc.)

  • At the time of service, it is critical that all of the other components in your vehicle are properly checked. Your auto technicians should also always make sure to see that the U-joints in your vehicle are properly lubricated for optimal performance.

  • Rather than replacing one component, it could be most cost efficient for you to replace the entire driveshaft. Of course, this depends on your vehicle make and model as well.

  • Many Four-wheel drive vehicles are equipped with two driveshaft’s. Much of the time it is not necessary to replace both of the driveshafts.

How the Driveshaft is Replaced

Our certified machinist can replace your driveshaft in a timely and efficient manner. However, first we must assess the damage and the U-joints to make sure that all of the components are in proper shape to proceed with a complete replacement. Sometimes, it can be more cost efficient to replace one component or it is most cost effective to replace the entire driveshaft, depending on the vehicle.

1. Assess damage in the driveshaft and the surrounding components

2. Remove driveshaft and replace with a brand new driveshaft in stock

3. Perform basic safety tests and inspections

4. Test drive the vehicle to make sure that the vehicle is operating properly

Helpful maintenance tips:

Making sure to properly lubricate all of your U-joints in your driveshaft is important to extending the life of your driveshaft.

Common telltale signs to replace your driveshaft:

  • A clunking sound when accelerating or shifting between drive and reverse.
  • Vibration from under your vehicle while driving.
  • Squealing noise while driving.

How important is this service?

A driveshaft is essential to the overall performance of your vehicle. This part is especially critical to maintain and repair because it is responsible for transferring the power from the engine to your wheels, essentially causing the vehicle to move. If the driveshaft is damaged in any way, the performance of the vehicle will diminish and the other parts of the engine and surrounding components will begin to wear down and also not perform as well as they should. If a damaged driveshaft goes without the proper repairs for too long, it can end up costing you much more in further damage repair costs.
